Name: Giorgio Perrotta
Date of Birth: 08-05-1940
Education: graduated in Electronic Engineering , Radionavigation specialization,
in 1965 with a thesis on a TACAN system
In 1985 he participated to the Management Course ( 8 weeks) organized
by IRI for the 35 % most promising young IRI’s managers;

Experience:
2000- onwards: co-owner and technical Director of IMT srl, a small hi-tech enterprise
very active in systems engineering and in the R&D of innovative
electronic products for aerospace applications. Responsible for the
definition of key innovative hardware products and system design of the
nanosatellites being developed by IMT with company’s funds;

1995-1999: with Alenia Spazio, responsible for the Strategic Studies including
satellite systems for Radio Navigation and ATC; innovative satellite
constellations for DRS and worldwide communications using new types
of elliptical orbits. Responsible for Research activities with Italian
Universities and Research Groups concerning the design and application
of stratospheric platforms, parallel calculus, signal compression
algorithms, automatic photo interpretation , and innovative
communication systems;
1987-1995: responsible for New Studies, New Business Directorate. Project manager
for Artemis phase A. Chief system designer and Project Scientist for the
COSMO satellite system. Responsible for Advanced Research in the
field of small satellites, and for Electric Propulsion within the industrial
group coordinated by Alenia Spazio;
1982-1987: with Alenia Spazio, Head of Communication and Remote Sensing Depts,
- and later as Head of the System Engineering , Electrical Subsystems and
Payload Subsystem group- with direct responsibilities for the system
design of Olympus in phases A and B, ERS-1, and Italsat.
1971- 1982: senior system engineer, with Selenia Industrie, Electrical Communication
Dept, responsible for the design of the Sirio-1 and Sirio-2 satellite
payloads and for all system studies for ESA;
1965-1971: antenna systems design engineer with Selenia Industrie, Rome;


Patents: about a dozen patents concerning several space technology aspects ( constellations, tracking systems, mechanically scanning antennas, time synchronization,…)

Publications: more than 230 technical papers covering several aspects of space systems, subsystems’ technologies and space projects. A few of recent papers, that he authored or co-authored, are listed herebelow:

Awards:
- Prize C. Colombo for Electronic Innovation, 1985 (pioneering studies on FDMA-TDMA techniques for communication satellites);
- Honorary Professor nomination (1991) at the Technical University of Cheng-Du (P.R. China) for Technical Achievements in Space Technologies;

Academic Activities:

2003 and 2004:
Lecturer for the post-graduation Master in ‘Platforms and satellite systems’ at the University of Rome La Sapienza on the following topics:
- Satellite Communications: principles and implementation;
- Economics of satellite systems
- Advanced Engineering Tools available to the system designer and specialists
- Theory and practice, through team building and exercises, of the design of a geostationary commercial communication satellite (2003) and of a LEO remote sensing satellite system equipped with an optical and SAR sensor (2004);
For these Master courses he was also active in the overall organization of the topics and the lectures’ content and in the evaluation of the participants’ learning process ;

2004-2005 and 2006
Lecturer for the post-graduation Master in ‘ Advanced Communication and Navigation satellite systems’ at the University of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’ in the following topics:
- Specificities of satellites against other technological Means;
- Economics of satellite systems: extended lectures complemented by group-exercises simulating the evaluation, by an industrial team, of an international bid opportunity;
- Nano, Micro, and minisatellites
